So after the Denver thievery, I bought a new phone... it's a "World Phone" which means it works in every country except Japan. How convenient. I'm probably better off that way.

I'd rather have the backside shower than have brown water splash my ankles.
Oh yeah...I'd forgotten about that fun. The first time I saw one of those was at Northwest Airlines airport club...they even had a plastic lining that swirled around the toilet bowl seat so you had fresh Saran Wrap each time you sat.
In China, the "Japanese style" was bathroom stalls with a hole in the ground and enough room to squat.
Also, no heat or a/c.
Keep us posted, sounds like a great adventure.
When in Japan, do as the Japanese do. More peace signs in your pictures!
